How to Incorporate Exercise Into Your Daily Life - By Christine Kim

Exercising should be an important part of our daily lives. Being physically active has many health benefits and can help keep us going through the day. But how many of us can actually spend hours at the gym? We are all busy going to work, going to school and taking care of our kids. It is difficult in our busy lives to put aside time in the day that is focused solely on strength training and cardio activities. As busy as we are, we should become more aware of the opportunities that present themselves during our day to incorporate exercise in our lives. See how easy it can be to incorporate exercise in your daily routine.

1. Skip the Search
Searching for a parking spot near the mall or grocery store can be stressful and leave you frustrated. Instead of circling the parking lot for empty spaces like a predator, you can simply choose to park at the very back. This provides you with an opportunity to skip the stress and speed walk to the nearest entrance. Although you may be carrying heavy bags on your return to the car, think of it as another chance to challenge your body!

2. Bring on the Stairmaster
With our great dependence on technology, we tend to forget the easier way to get things done and the healthier way for that matter! We are always presented with the choice to take the elevator or escalator as opposed to the stairs. By taking the stairs you are increasing your cardio and toning your butt and thighs. If the distance going up or down is too far to manage, take the elevator part of the way and take the stairs for the remainder. This way you are still working your heart without taking on too much!

3. Self Service
Although the temptation of having others mow the lawn, shovel the snow or wash our car for us is rather significant, it can leave you dishing out tons of cash for this service. Carrying out these tasks by yourself will not only save you money, but it will help burn calories. These chores can assist in toning your arms and strengthening your core muscles. These everyday jobs can be time consuming, so they can be left for the weekend, when you have more time on your hands.

4. Be Playful
Having a pet is a large responsibility. Most of the time pet owners just let their dog out in the yard on their own because taking them on a walk can seem like a chore. However, you should take advantage of this break by giving your pet and yourself some exercise. A brief walk several times a day can really make a difference. When you are ready for another challenge, you can try taking your pet for a run!

5. Toning While Doing Chores
Completing household work can be boring and time consuming. There is a way to maximize the efficiency of getting things done. Simple household work like doing the dishes, vacuuming and picking things up off the floor can be turned into exercise. Try using your arm strength and abdominals to move the vacuum over the carpet. While you are loading the dishwasher, use good posture and tighten your abdominal muscles when you are bending. And while picking things off the floor you can tighten your butt as if you were doing squats. Carrying out these kinds of chores with a better attitude can help the time pass more quickly.

6. Playtime for Adults
Supervising your kids in the backyard or neighborhood park isn't always fun. To help time pass more quickly, you can play too! Providing attention to your kids and playing a game of tag can help bring your heart rate up and burn calories. Being active with your children can benefit your health and keep your kids happy too. It can be fun for the whole family!

Not everyone can set aside time to engage in physical activities. However, this doesn't mean you can't be physical during a busy day. These simple tips for incorporating exercise into your daily life are helpful and great ways to keep healthy when you do not have the time to get to the gym. With a little extra time and the willingness to keep active, you can make any task into a physical activity!
