Chronic Back Pain Shrinks Brain

MONDAY, Nov. 22 (HealthDayNews) -- Chronic back pain can shrink the gray matter in your brain by as much as 11 percent in one year, the same amount of brain density that's lost in 10 to 20 years of normal aging, says a Northwestern University study.

Aspirin and Asthma

Aspirin can trigger potentially life-threatening asthmatic attacks in some people who have asthma. And the few asthmatics who are sensitive to aspirin are also likely to react poorly to other non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen and naproxen, though not as severely.

Canadian Poll Says Snow Shoveling Number One Cause of Winter Back Pain

A poll from Canada points to snow shoveling as the leading cause of back and neck pain during the winter months. In the poll, 73 per cent of Ontario chiropractors surveyed say improper shoveling technique tops the list of reasons for winter back pain problems.

Chiropractic Care May Reduce Surgeries, X-rays

Oct. 12, 2004 -- Chiropractic care cuts health care costs, a new study shows.

The study comes from American Specialty Health Plans Inc. of San Diego. The company provides employers with health insurance coverage for complementary medicine, including chiropractic care and acupuncture.
