Importance Of Self-Care
In today's fast-paced hectic world with our many to-do lists scattered around, it is easy to forget to put your own health at the top of that list. I recently took my vehicle to my mechanic, as it didn't feel "right" to me. It occurred to me as I was waiting how much better people would be if they listened to their bodies as well as they tuned in to their cars.
We are very diligent about getting the oil changed every so many miles, keeping the gas tank full, regular tune-ups so it will stay running. Think of your body as the vehicle you have been given to drive through life in. Are you giving it the best self-care that you can?
Many times clients ask me how long they will need to come for their massage therapy treatments. I will give them a projected treatment plan and tell them after that they will only require maintenance. This simply means that just as you would tune up your car, you want to keep the muscles healthy to avoid future problems. It is very common, unfortunately, for clients to disappear after they feel symptom free only to resurface when the pain sidelines them again. How much simpler and effective it would be for them to have taken the time for self-care and made themselves a priority.
There are so many ways to do maintenance on our bodies so that they stay in prime running condition for us. Feed your mind with new interests, books and friends. Feed your bodies with proper diet and exercise and regular chiropractic and massage therapy. Pay attention to the signals your body and environment are giving you and respond accordingly. Know what's important - You are. Fill your life with what gives you joy and energy and remove things from your life that don't. Think of looking after "#1" as an ongoing, never-ending process. Put yourself at the top of today's to-do list
Yours in health,
