Hello to all!
In this month's newsletter we have a great chiropractic story about how a severe neck injury of a high school pole-vaulter was successfully treated with chiropractic care. Also, information on a study coming out of Britain about the lack of effectiveness of anti-depressants when used on children. We also have a good article about how cinnamon can help lower blood cholesterol and effective ways to help with your children's inner ear infections.
Please note that the clinic will be closed on Monday, May 24, 2003 for Victoria Day.
We will be commencing summer hours soon. Starting June 7th and continuing through the months of July and August the clinic will be not be open on Mondays.

Watchful Waiting Best Approach to Fluid in the Middle Ear
The above is a quote from the title of a May 3, 2004 news release from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The release notes that most toddlers and preschoolers will be diagnosed with fluid in their middle ears known as otitis media with effusion (OME). According to the release a new practice guideline from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery outlines the best way for pediatricians and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat OME. full story...

Antidepressants And Children Not A Good Mix
The April 10th issue of the British Medical Journal (BMJ) contains a clinical review that shows that antidepressants should not be prescribed as a medication for depression in people under 18 years of age. According to the BMJ, Australian researchers analyzed existing results from six randomized controlled trials of newer antidepressants and their use in children. The review team found what they called "disturbing shortcomings", in the study results published on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as Effexor, Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft. full story...

According to Mary Poppins, "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down in a most delightful way." A new report suggests that the equivalent of a spoonful of cinnamon a day can significantly lower blood sugar, cholesterol and lipid levels, which is most delightful news for people with - or at risk of developing - diabetes.
