Hormone Replacement Therapy

In North America, it is estimated that up to 12 million menopausal women currently use hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Medical doctors claim HRT helps with signs and symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, osteoporosis, and heart disease. As with any treatment there is an inherent risk associated with it. However, a long term study set up to determine how effective HRT is in protecting women from heart disease was cut short by 3 years to release findings which indicate that HRT increases, not decreases, your chance of heart disease. They found that women suffered more heart attacks, more strokes and more life threatening blood clots. Even though HRT was successful in reducing the incidence of hip fractures and colon cancer, the study showed that HRT directly resulted in an increase in breast cancer, heart disease and circulatory disorders. For many healthy menopausal women who are searching for answers to alleviate symptoms of menopause, it is becoming apparent that the negative effects of HRT certainly outweigh the positive benefits. For a treatment that was supposed to "increase" the health of menopausal women, HRT is showing itself as something other than the magical cure.

Advocates of healthy alternatives have been suggesting that women need to take precautionary steps throughout their life to decrease their chances of osteoporosis and symptoms related to menopause not just near the time of menopause. Healthy alternatives have always been available which are less expensive and certainly not as dangerous. Consult your local chiropractor to receive information on healthy alternatives available for you regarding this matter.
